ROCK THE KASBAH – Starring Bill Murray – Movie Review

Open Road Film’s upcoming movie, ROCK THE KASBAH starring Bill Murray, Bruce Willis, Kate Hudson and Zooey Deschanel opens in theaters October 23!

Rock The Kasbah is the story of Richie Lanz, a rock manager with a golden ear and a taste for talent, who has seen better times. When he takes his last remaining client on a USO tour of Afghanistan, she gets cold feet and leaves him penniless and without his passport in Kabul. While trying to find his way home, Richie befriends a band of misfits and discovers a young girl with an extraordinary voice. Against all odds, Richie will take his last shot at creating an unlikely superstar.

MY THOUGHTS:
The story begins in Van Nuys where Richie Lanz (Bill Murray) is a music agent working out of some roach motel trying to find the next big star. He takes his last client who sings cover songs at some hole in the wall bar on a USO tour in Afghanistan. HUH? Exactly! That is just the first 10 minutes of the film. I love Bill Murray but sadly this film did not live up to even Murray’s standards. The story fell apart from the beginning and just slowly unraveled. I truly thought this was going to be a funny film especially with the big name cast backing it up but it left me disenchanted. At times it was borderline slap stick which is not how I see Bill Murray. There were a few moments of the real Bill doing his signature moves which were the only time I cracked a smile but it just wasn’t enough. I still love you Bill!!!
