Whiskey Tango Foxtrot – Interview with Liz from Mega 101

Being a successful woman in this day and age isn’t easy. However, with the right amount of determination and direction, it certainly can be achieved. On March 4 the film Whiskey Tango Foxtrot will debut in theaters everywhere. Tina Fey stars as Kim Barker, an unhappy and unmotivated woman about to embark on a life changing adventure as a journalist in Afghanistan.

Elizabeth Becerril, a successful Houston area woman who relates to embarking on a life-changing adventure, is a well-known Houston radio celebrity and station music director. Known to Houstonian’s as Liz from Mega 101, she recently took the plunge to fulfill a lifelong dream by opening an online plus-sized woman’s boutique.

Much like Tina Fey’s character, she also felt unmotivated and was looking to switch up her monotonous daily routine. Not because she didn’t love her job, but because she was looking for growth and change.

Since opening her boutique, her will is unstoppable. This new journey has positively impacted not only her, but her job and her son as well. He is witnessing an example of hard work.

With Beti’s Boutique Plus, Liz is looking to empower all women to feel their very best and makes it a point to post daily motivational quotes for all her followers.

  1. What made you open up Betis Boutique? How did you make that decision?

I felt like I wanted more in my life, and I had already achieved one goal which was radio. I wanted to prove to myself that I was capable of more and I’ve always known that I wanted to do something in the plus-sized world. I just felt that it was the right time. Even though this is fairly new, I feel so proud of myself and I feel so motivated and more creative. I feel like it’s reflected in all areas of my life. It’s kind of like you fall into this routine and I wasn’t miserable with my life. I love my job and being in radio, but radio is something I can do with my eyes closed because I have been doing this every single day of my life and I fell into a routine. With this new project, the motivation that I feel is reflected in my current job in radio, it’s reflected in being a mom and the example that I am giving him. It’s just given me a new reason to live. I think we all need that new reason every once in a while.

  1. From watching the trailer, how can you relate to Tina Fey’s character?

Because we fall into this routine and we forget what we are capable of and the only way to know our strength is to face our fears. Often times that means doing something new and different and outside the box. Once we do, we realize how capable we are and that changes your life. It brings you happiness. That happed to Tina Fey as Kim Barker and it’s happening to me.

  1. What are some of the steps or things you do to feel happy every day and love yourself?

I feel so proud of myself lately so every day I remind myself that not everyone has the courage to do it. I was scared and I hesitated because I’ve had this on my mind for months before I actually took the first step. I did it. I didn’t let my fears win and that makes me feel like great. I didn’t do it because I was fearless, I just didn’t let the fear stop me which is even more fearless and brave! Everyone has fears except some people hide it better than others. I try to remind myself of how brave I am for taking on this new adventure and I forgive myself a lot because there is nothing worse than being your own worst critic. I am a big believer in letting things flow and not beating yourself up. It’s cliché, but everything happens for a reason. You can’t beat yourself up. Learn from it, forgive yourself and move on.

  1. I follow you on your social media sites and I see that you always empower women and remind them to love themselves, which is great! Is it also a reminder to yourself?

Yes, I think it’s mainly why I do it. I post inspirational quotes because they trigger something in me when I see them and they remind me of something I may have forgotten about myself. I make it a point to post something positive at least once a day and you’re right, they are for me!

  1. In the film, there’s a scene where Margo Robbie tells Tina Fey that in Afghanistan she’s a “10” and Tina replies then you must be a “15” or something to that extent. How does that scene make you feel and if you had a little girl what would you say to her about beauty? If someone insults you without knowing you then that is a reflection of themselves so you have to forgive them. It’s important to know yourself. The more you accept yourself, forgive yourself and love yourself the less people can affect you with their opinions.
